Choices will be made.
Deals will be harbored.
Relationships will be tested.
With the threat of Edward's self-destruction behind them, he, Bella and Alice safely return home from Volterra and rejoin the Cullens in Forks. Just when they feel like things are settling down they will face an even greater threat, the possible destruction of the entire family. Rumors abound that Victoria is set on avenging James' death by killing the human girl responsible for his destruction. Of course she isn't opposed to taking out the family of vampires who protected said girl. Now the Cullens must scramble to prepare and do what they can to find aid.
With Bella's choice made, Edward over Jacob, do the Cullens have any chance of gaining support from the Quileute Wolves? That prospect doesn't look promising, especially when Jake begins to grow closer to Leah Clearwater. Meanwhile, Sam Uley has a surprising announcement for the pack. He is not the rightful Alpha and wishes to see the true pack leader take his place. Jacob would have been happier had the truth not been revealed. Now he must make the most important decision of his life in the midst of all the other upheaval. Leah will work on persuading Jacob that he should honor his heritage and take his rightful place. What will he decide?
What will happen when the wolves must chose between helping the Cullens or letting them fend for themselves? Both sides would be better off helping the other but can natural enemies see beyond centuries of strife and work together? Can Jacob and Edward put their differences aside in order to protect Bella? Does Jacob still hold enough feelings for her to prompt an offer of aid? Will the need to protect the human residents of Forks and the surrounding area prove the deciding factor? Or will a broken heart decide everyone's fate? Will the pack back Jacob should he decide to assist the Cullens?
Seriously concerned over what a battle of such great magnitude would do to the family, Alice in particular, Jasper attempts to call in a series of favors from former friends. When they all prove difficult to contact he is left in a difficult position. With limited options, working in an unknown timeframe, he is forced to contemplate the unthinkable; seeking help from Maria. Will his creator be willing to offering aid to someone who abandoned her? How does Maria feel about her former companion now? What will she seek as compensation for her help? Will Jasper doom himself to damnation in order to save his wife? What will Alice think of his decision? Will his efforts to save the Cullens destroy his relationship with the one person who gives his life true meaning?
Will Victoria succeed in her quest to destroy Bella and the Cullens? Will Maria help Jasper or does she have her own agenda in mind? Is Jacob truly over Bella and willing to risk her life out of spite towards Edward? Will others come forward to help the Cullens or will they face Victoria and her newborn army alone?
