Gryphon's Nest, Sphinx's Den is a slice of life RPG set in California as seen through the lens of far too much television. While adult characters (particularly teachers and parents) are allowed, the focus is on high school characters. Our game has no over-reaching plot as such, instead focusing on character interaction and dealing with the universal themes of acceptance and identity (in all forms, from sexuality to religion to culture and everything in between). We encourage anyone with an interest in collaborative fiction with a focus on character interactions and relationships (not just romantic, but family and friend and enemy etc as well) to join us, including those new to free form forum-based roleplaying.
Each in-game day lasts three weeks, and each week is a different time of day (morning, lunch, and after school). There are usually between 13 to 15 active threads going on each week; most threads are between two to four characters each. The players come up with the storylines and characters. The mods occasionally throw in events, but response to mod events is optional. IC posts are required to be at least 200 words; this minimum has brought up the quality of posts in an already excellent group of writers.
While certain "adult" themes, such as abuse and drugs and sexual encounters, may sometimes be touched upon, our game's focus is on the emotional turmiol engendered by these behaviours rather than the acts themselves and players are asked to keep descriptions of sex and gore off the board.
We are proud to represent all cliques, from the jocks and cheerleaders and preps, to the nerds and steampunks and scene kids, and everything in between. We delight in turning cliches on their head and exploring the motivations behind people's retreat into seeming stereotype.
We are LGBT friendly: Characters from across the Kinsey Scale (including asexuals) and all gender identities are encouraged. While we are not a "Slash" game, we do not believe there is a such thing as too many non-straight, genderqueer characters.
Characters are allowed to be politically interested, but keep in mind that we are an idealogically diverse group of players, so please keep things civil.
